DT095: Xinobi - Far Away Place (Rampa Remix)

For years now Xinobi has been the staple of the Portuguese electronic music scene, dominating that deep house and techno sound has seen him make a mark not only in his own country but right across Europe and further afar.

As another incredibly busy and rewarding year for draws to a close, he is pleased announce that he will be closing out the year with the release of the long-awaited Rampa Remix of his runaway hit, ‘Far Away Place’. Taken from last year’s sophomore album ‘On The Quiet’, ‘Far Away Place’ has since taken Xinobi a thrilling journey, pleasing crowds the world over and amassing close to five million streams.

The song’s reputation is set to be cemented with this collaboration. Rampa, needs no introduction, similarly neither does this remix, with it already having become an exclusive staple of Rampa's live set's, often shrouded in mystery, it has gained a cult following with Xinobi receiving countless messages and requests as to its identity.

Since 2009, Rampa made a name of himself through Keinemusik, his own little d.i.y.-cosmos, being not only label, but also crew of likeminded DJs, producers and friends. The teamwork within this realm has seen a serious number of premier productions and collaborations, particularly with fellow producer &ME, not to forget the rest of the bunch, Adam Port, Reznik and Monja. With a huge array of collaborations and releases already under his belt, put out on imprints like Cocoon, Innervisions, Strictly Rhythm, Kompakt, 2020 Vision, Freerange or Crosstown Rebels. When it comes to DJing, he often adopts a less is more approach believing that consciousness is more essential to his artistic persona than ever before. A fact that evidently communicates through his music.

Despite Xinobi’s appetite for devouring various sounds and genres, there is a unique watermark and consistency to his output, due not least to his musical and arrangement-based skills. After releasing a few solid ep’s and two full lengths album’s Xinobi has gained real recognition among established and well-known artists and opinion-makers, and his underground cult has amplified.

Together they are excited to finally reveal and release this remix, as Rampa joins Jody Wisternoff & James Grant, Tensnake, Pete Herbert and many others in a long line of artists who have remixed the song only adding to its story and acclaim.

Xinobi’s ‘Far Away Place’ (Rampa Remix) will be released on November 30th, through Xinobi’s ever-growing influential label Discotexas.

DT093: Oma Nata - Father's Son

Having been ensconced in the studio recording material for his debut album due 2019 via Discotexas, Berlin based experimental artist Oma Nata pre-empts its release with a brand new Jazz-house inspired track 'Father's Son'. He says: "Father’s Son is a memorial to my childhood. I try to create my own identity and reality through music and imagery by using sounds and my body. The track is a journey, beginning with an almost animalistic sound and leans towards a soulful funk and groovy bass line that I've dedicated to my late father". Oma Nata's music crosses boundaries bewteen jazz, house, dub and electronica; exploring a moody, vibrant and exotic sound. Born and raised in Portugal, Mário da Motta Veiga has made his path through music by playing different instruments in metal and electronic bands before moving to London. Between London and Berlin, Mário started to shape music into an ever-changing constellation of sounds and introspective moods that connects us to his own spiritual discovery.

DT088: Xinobi - Dance To Hits

DT088: Xinobi - Dance To Hits

In the midst of what is shaping up to be an incredibly busy and rewarding year for Xinobi, he is pleased to today announce the release of his new single ‘Dance To Hits’.

For years now Xinobi has been the staple of the Portuguese electronic music scene, dominating that deep house and techno sound has seen him make a mark not only in his own country but right across Europe and further afar. Despite Xinobi’s appetite for devouring various sounds and genres, there is a unique watermark and consistency to his output, due not least to his musical and arrangement-based skills.

‘Dance To Hits’ marks his first release of original music since the release of last year’s sophomore album ‘On The Quiet’, seeing him once again pair up Margarida Falcão, as he did on that album’s runaway hit tune ‘Far Away Place’. Here she returns to add her unique shimmering female vocals to a brooding and pulsating track, with a deep undertone.

“I wanted to say something about how music can save you mentally” says Xinobi (moniker of Bruno Cardoso) of the tracks theme. With lyrics such as: I dance to hits / I know you’re just trying to help me out / But I lose it / I lose my mind, the music’s louder now highlighting the effect music can have on your mental state, in this case coming across as dark sounding musical therapy.

After releasing a few solid ep’s and two full lengths album’s Xinobi has gained real recognition among established and well-known artists and opinion-makers, and his underground cult has amplified. Here he hopes to further his reputation, creating yet another uniquely catchy and beautiful pop tune to accompany the summer. A reminder that however how we are feeling, music always makes everything better.

‘Dance To Hits’ will be released this August 3rd on Discotexas, the ever-growing and influential label, he formed with his friends and work-partners Moullinex and Mr. Mitsuhirato.

Fresh off the back of the languorous poolside disco and tropical pop of their debut album ‘Shapes On Shapes’ released last November, LA based duo Wild & Free return with a collection of essential remixes from label mates and influences alike by revisiting the heady disco of recent single ‘Ferns and Stuff’.

The ‘Ferns and Stuff Remixes’ EP will again be released through Discotexas, on May 25th, both digitally and on 12” vinyl.

DT087: Monality - Itsula

DT087: Monality - Itsula

Live electronic duo Monality are next up on Discotexas a year after their stunning debut.

Allen Hulsey and Erdem Tunalı combine deep tech with ethnic influences and tonal sounds into their own unique output. They gained incredible momentum during their first year with releases on Noiseist, Wold Records and Bercana Music featuring an intriguing blend of acoustic instruments including fretless guitar, bağlama, kanun and bowed guitar.

This fascinating new EP kicks off with ‘Itsula’ featuring a kanun (Turkish zither), which is a 78 string traditional instrument. Those smeared strings bring real voodoo charm to the grooves as rubbery kicks roll below. Subtle, slow release and sensuous, it’s a fresh track with a very unique charm.

Then comes the intoxicating ‘Up&Down’ with fretless guitar performing enchanting ethnic scales. It was performed on the Main Stage at Sonar Istanbul, one of fifty live shows the pair have done in the last year, and is a magical track with warm, rugged bass and alluring strings that is sure to become a big tune on terraces and at open air parties this summer.

This is a truly unique EP of brilliantly worldly sounds from Discotexas and Monality.

Following the release last year of his sophomore album ‘On The Quiet’, an album of dance floor-focused stories about the transition of many electronic musicians from punk rock and skateboarding into house music and about how dance-music can be a field for social conscious awareness, 2018 will see Xinobi re-visit that albums big hit single ‘Far Away Place’ whilst expanding his catalogue and list of collaborators with the release of four incredible reworkings forming the ‘Far Away Place Remixes’ EP.

Featuring remixes from Jody Wisternoff & James Grant, commissioned and released by hot influential label Anjunadeep, Tensnake and a couple of re-workings from Pete Herbert, these remixes will mark the first in a series of high-profile remixes, with further mixes of ‘On The Quiet’ tracks coming later this year.

Luis Clara Gomes, the man behind Moullinex, is paving the road towards a new album this year, and if “Open House” is any indication, get ready for a smooth ride into funk nirvana.

Once you step into this “Open House”, you’re under. The piano hugs you like a long lost friend, and when those synth stabs kick in, it’s already too late. This is the soundtrack for an imaginary club night ran by George Clinton and Colonel Abrams in Rio de Janeiro in 1981.

And who’s that? Tee Flowers, a singer/performer whose identity has been shrouded in mystery, has stepped into light for a wake up call: the best way to counter a rising divide is to get together. Dancing is one of the last standing manifestations of collective love, so we should join forces and celebrate difference. We call it “Open House”.

DT063: Bufi - Revelación

DT063: Bufi - Revelación

The ever-impressing Discotexas imprint is back this November and return with an excellently sculpted 9 track offering alongside Duro from Mexico City’s Bufi, who delivers a breathtaking second long player to his evolving and expanding catalogue. Bufi aka Mateo González Bufi, is a name known to many across South America and beyond following releases on the likes of La Belle Records, Kitsuné, Electrique Music and his own imprint Duro over the past five years. Add to this remixes for the likes of Little Dragon and Hot Chip and you can see just why Bufi has gained the attention of many including Tensnake and Diplo, with the notable producer returning to Discotexas following his 2014 ‘Salvaje’ EP release on the imprint.

Having expertly merged an unconditional love for synthesizers and drum machines with a classical background, Bufi has gone on to develop an eclectic sound that subtly combines driving techno and slick disco with delicate jazz and classical influences, evidence of which can be found throughout the 9 productions on offer straight out of Mexico City.

The release is kicked off by ‘Apocalipstick’, a low-slung effort that builds from a series of blooming synth leads and hypnotizing vocals, whilst ‘Dan’s Return’ takes a slightly lighter dynamic with its bubbling, acid-tinged lead line met by resonant and deep chords that bring with them a groove that you can’t help but move to.

The three tracks leading up to the middle of the album really showcase the diversity within the producers arsenal, with the smooth, meandering melodies of ‘White Tambourine’ and the playful, yet dark ‘Cosmoattack’ broken up by the well placed ‘Interlude’, with its beat-less structure, subtle nuances and elegant tones resetting and refreshing the mood.

Tracks such as ‘Peaks’ and ‘Manana’ ensure the energy levels remain high, balanced by shuffling percussion, warm tones and wandering arpeggios, before the slightly more reduced ‘New Ground’ reveals a captivating vocal and driving sub bass, yet again showcasing the producers innate ability within the studio. Last up, ‘No Pare’ fuses dynamic techno elements with rich sonics, and rounds out the LP in fine style.

Captivating and absorbing throughout, this album is yet another impressive piece of studio work from one of South America’s finest talents, and joins the list of notable releases to emerge from the Lisbon based Discotexas imprint as we enter into the latter stages of 2016.
