“HOPE/DOPE is all about instinct. I have been a fan of Nástio Mosquito for a while now, and when working on this track I stumbled upon one of his performances, which I sampled directly into the track. What struck me most was how much his performance was connected to house music’s sense of individual and communal awakening. As in a campfire or a stage, I like this idea of storytelling on the dance floor, a story powerful enough to enact change in you.

Hope is abstract and very subjective: like freedom, space and community, these open-ended yet powerful ideas bring people together.

I finished the track I let it sit for months in the back of my hard drive, as maybe I was too shy to show it to Nástio. I reencountered it recently, and it just spoke to me. So I did show it to him, and he loved it. Here it is.”
