After a very prolific last year of collaboration, Moullinex is back with brand new music in the form of ‘Transcend’, this time around collaborating with Seattle born newcomer Lisa Lex.
For Moullinex, last year was dominated by his fourth record ‘Requiem for Empathy’. A collaboration heavy album that saw support from Pete Tong at BBC Radio 1 (UK), Nemone at BBC 6music (UK) and many more, including countless online outlets (KALTBLUT, The Fader, Mixmag, DJ Mag, Dezeen to name a few), all rightfully heaping on their much-deserved love. The album also spawned the Live at Eléctrico EP. Between then and now he has also found the time to collaborate with harpist Angélica Salvi (on single Burnt Cork) and compose the music on a scoring commission in Portugal, both of which hinting at what was about to come with ‘See Me Burn’, strings featuring on both, with GPU Panic again featuring on the latter. Moullinex rounded off the year with a joint single with Xinobi ‘Imaginary Numbers’, produced at Discotexas’ new Lisbon studio headquarters. Moullinex's work in film scoring then transpired into his most recent single ‘See Me Burn’, a return to collaborating with GPU Panic and saw him introducing strings to his recordings, something Moullinex has been exploring and evolving of late.
Seattle-born, Lisbon-based singer Lisa Lex wrote her first song at the age of 11 to process her first heartbreak. That was the moment when she realised the incredible power of words and her love for storytelling. “When I do music I am 100% myself and I feel like a superhuman” says Lisa. She moved to Portugal after escaping from a suppressing environment not supporting her love for music. All of her songs are written, produced, and recorded by Lisa herself. Her music is described as a fusion of experimental pop, trip hop, cinematic and nature sounds with influences from middle eastern melodies.
Fast forward to now and ‘Transcend’ is a transcendent both in name and nature, a track born through a chance meeting in which Moullinex brings the tempo up on a track that sours in terms of its hypnotic and groovy qualities alike with Lisa’s vocal adding an extra level of gravitas. Recorded in Lisbon, Warsaw and Berlin, it will be premiering live at Sonar Festival in Lisbon. Thanks to its breakdown, Transcend’ is guaranteed to be a huge peak time number.
